20th annual meeting of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness
ASSC-XX is the 20th annual meeting of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness. It will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, June 14-18, 2016. The 4 day meeting (plus 1 day of tutorial sessions) brings together leading researchers in neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, philosophy, psychiatry, neurology, and computer science in a forum dedicated to showcasing and advancing rigorous scientific approaches to understanding the nature, function, and underlying mechanisms of conscious experience. Attendees are drawn from researchers, clinicians, students at all levels, as well as the interested media and public. ASSC20 will be organized by the leading Argentinean scientists working on Consciousness and Cognition. The meeting will take place in the Centro Cultural de la Ciencia inside the Ministry of Science.
Buenos Aires, the most vibrant city in South America is the top international conference destination in the region. Buenos Aires has direct flights to most main cities and capitals in the world. The city is a pinnacle of food pleasure, tango dancing, theatre and music, and holds prizes to the best bars known to man. The city, the venue and hotels and accommodation for the conference are well connected, mostly walking distance with restaurants, pubs, transport links in the same neighbourhood.
Buenos Aires will not only be a premier scientific meeting, but a citywide celebration of consciousness science. We already have an exciting line-up of keynote speakers: Frank Tong (Vanderbilt University), Biyu He (NIH/NINDS), Henrik Ehrsson (Karolinska Institutet), Michael Graziano (Princeton University), Frederique de Vignemont (Institute Jean-Nicod), Jakob Hohwy (Monash University).
We are also delighted to announce a special event “A Tribute to Daniel Dennett’s Consciousness”, with talks by the man himself, Stanislas Dehaene and Rodrigo Quian Quiroga. Dennett’s influence in the field and beyond are incalculable and we are delighted to be able to host this once in a lifetime event.
We will also have Steven Laureys’ presidential address. As a major change from previous ASSC meetings, and following the success of the extended ASSC16 in Brighton, ASSC20 will take place over four full days, plus one tutorial day. We have made these changes in order to ensure that excellent scientific content can be combined with enough time for discussion, poster viewing, and much more.
